The sixteen elements must be lined up in a horizontal row to allow for a reading of the inscription from left to right. The arrangement in a grid of 4 x 4 units reproduced in the Catalogue raisonné is not ideal; it should only be taken into consideration when there is a problem related to the amount of space available that cannot be solved.

The sequence of sixteen “annals” lined up horizontally in a row, at short intervals, and dated at the lower left from 1961 to 1976, reproduces the entirety of the characters making up the title, each time written in red pencil and in large squared letters. Moreover, the sixteen elements trace – by way of the systematic series of details included in a grid of sixteen rectangles outlined on each sheet – an image taken from a treatise on perspective, representing a figure from whose gaze wide beams of visual rays depart. From one sheet to another, a collage reveals a new detail of the image, while the ones that were already seen are gradually traced by way of a pencil drawing, until the complete transcription of the image on the last element.
