Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli
Marco Noire Editore, Turin
The multiple was commissioned from the artist by the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli – directed at the time by Ida Gianelli – on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the museum, which was inaugurated on 18 December 1984. The multiple was made as a gift to both the Amici del Museo and the members of the Board of Administration.
Havana cardboard folder with flaps, closed format 41 x 31 cm; on the front board white label with titles in black (publisher, author, title). Contains the multiple – inserted in the central cut-out of the interlocking cardboard – and a bi-folio with title-page (first side) and colophon (fourth side).
Includes information regarding the context of production, technique, edition size, printer, place and date of printing (Turin, December 2004).
The plexiglas plate is impressed with the drawing of a spatial framing, which directs our gaze towards two rooms in succession with an ordinate pattern of rectangles on the walls. The ensemble of "paintings" refers to the years of life of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea from 1984 to 2004: the first and last date, also repeated in the title, are written in red, at the bottom of the two rectangles in the lower row of the first room; the other dates are written in black, in chronological succession starting from the number “’84” at the lower right, to continue, after “’87”, from top to bottom, until reaching “’04” at the lower right.
A painting of paintings, a multitude of paintings: the spatial and temporal perspective pays tribute to the size of both the Painting and the Museum, the one like the other, on a conceptual plane, the containers of a potentially unlimited number of images.
