Libro / Opera. Viaggio nelle pagine d’artista – La collezione di Danilo Montanari / A journey into the artist’s pages. Danilo Montanari’s collection, exhibition catalogue, Bologna, Aula Magna della Biblioteca Universitaria (Ravenna: Danilo Montanari Editore, 2011). 24 x 17 cm, 208 pages, paper binding. Texts by Luca Cerizza, Luigi Ballerini, Mario Diacono, Giorgio Bertelli, text by Giulio Paolini Un libro è un libro, b/w and colour illustrations, in Italian and English. An original card is applied to the photographic reproduction of an ensemble of white cards arranged in random order (the picture was taken by Paolo Mussat Sartor). The position of the original card from one copy to another of the edition size varies.
The relationship between the multiple cards reproduced and the single and authentic one is expressed in the title, transcribed by the artist, in a tautological key, in part on the printed image (”Copia e/The Copy and”) and in part on the card (”originale/The Original”). The uniqueness and originality of the card is also emphasized through its variable arrangement, which in turn makes each copy in the edition size unique and original.
The theme of the copy and the original is reformulated, in other terms, in a work on paper made soon afterwards (GPC-1360).
