The portfolio was produced by Incontri Internazionali d’Arte, Rome – an association founded by Graziella Lonardi Buontempo in 1970 and headquartered in Palazzo Taverna – as a gift to its supporting members. Bruno Corà's initiative is part of the occasional publication of graphic editions by Incontri Internazionali d’Arte, to support its activity.
Double-sided havana corrugated cardboard folder with a spine, tied with three light brown ribbons, closed format 27 x 38 x 3 cm; on the front board titles in black (author, title, publisher). On the inside front board a reproduction of the calendar of evening events presented in June 1977 at the Centro d’informazione alternativa (Incontri internazionali d’arte), Rome, with a short explanatory note by Bruno Corà; on the inside back board, the colophon. Contains the twelve plates.
Includes information regarding the number of plates, measurements, printing technique, folder, technique, printer, date of printing (October-December 1986), type of paper, edition size, editor, and publisher. Numbering and signature bottom right.
The installation features two alternatives:
• inside a case, with the sheets arranged fan-like or in any case positioned so that they are askew with respect to each other, along with the folder
• on the wall, with the sheets framed individually, lined up in three parallel rows at short intervals from each other, as shown in the image reproduced on the sheets themselves, in the order of succession determined each time by the drawing and the missing rectangle (overall dimensions approximately 80 x 147 cm).
The portfolio harkens back to the work that Giulio Paolini presented at the Incontri Internazionali d’Arte in Rome on 9 June 1977 as part of a series of twelve evenings involving artists and people from the cultural world.
The twelve sheets each feature a regular pattern of rectangles that correspond to both the ensemble of sheets making up the portfolio, and the twelve dates for the event of 1977, as indicated by the corresponding dates included in each rectangle. Each time the modular grid presents a missing unit, corresponding to the evening represented by the date and the name of the artist transcribed below on the sheet.
The portfolio is part of the thematic group of works with the same name, developed on canvas and on paper in 1977-78 (GPO-0352, GPO-0353, GPO-0368, GPO-0369), as well as the print Senza titolo (Novero), 1978 (GPE-0034).
