Three situations aligned on the same axis in a room, in addition to mirroring each other, each offer a vis-à-vis between two opposing images of the same subject, an anonymous sculpture of a female nude. At the centre, the plaster cast standing on a plinth is reflected in a photograph of the same cast, which falls at the level of the figure's gaze (the photograph is held between two plexiglas sheets hanging from nylon threads attached to the ceiling). On the walls situated in front of and behind the sculpture, the same situation is reproduced in axial projection – in other words, so that it can be seen from the front and the back, respectively – by way of a life-size drawing and a photograph (the profile of the sculpture is in part traced on the wall and on the photograph). The two photographs on the wall respectively hang from the recto, in the case of the drawing of the figure seen from behind, and from the verso, in the case of the figure seen from the front.
The gaze that from one "mimesis" to another chases the subject without ever catching it is eloquently matched in the gesture itself of the figure covering its face with its arm.
The same title was used for two other works, formally entirely different, made for the same solo show, entitled “Le tre Grazie”, held at the Galerie Yvon Lambert in Paris in 1978 (GPO-0379, GPO-0380).

Anonymous, female nude, 20th century.
