Untitled

Tempera and unprimed canvas on canvas

40 x 30 cm

Signed and dated on the verso on a white paper square applied to the lower stretcher bar, centre: “Giulio Paolini 1961”

Baldassarre Collection

A thin unprimed canvas, stretched across the upper half of a canvas painted with white tempera, is torn in the lower right corner, thus allowing the viewer to glimpse a stain left by the dark pigment preliminarily dripped from the upper part of the canvas.
The unprimed canvas hides the image, but at the same time it offers the viewer a glimpse of the traces of a hidden subject.
