D. to S.
Enamel on metal box
4.5 x Ø 10.5 cm
Private collection
A sort of rectified readymade, D. a S. consists of a tin of car wax which the artist intervened on by turning the brand name “Simoniz” into the surname of his friend Ippolito Simonis. With the title, whose two initials are meant to simulate a homage by Marcel Duchamp to Simonis, Paolini doubles the game, recalling the famous work by Duchamp entitled Apolinère Enameled (1916-17). In it the French artist had "rectified" the brand name “Sapolin Enamel” (Sapolin enamel) in “Apolinère Enameled” (enamelled Apolinère).
