The work should be installed in a separate room with a square plan (min 6 - max 10 metres per side), with accesses at either end of the wall (not in the middle of the wall). Each of the four canvases must be installed in the middle of a wall, so as to mirror each other (i.e. in axis in twos).

Four identical primed canvases, mounted at the centre of each of the four sides of a space, reproduce the way they themselves are displayed: each canvas features a portrayal of itself with respect to the others.
“The four canvases are none other than a vehicle used to announce just as many others, and so on, to subtract from the presence of the canvas its physical quality and use it as an opening onto the infinite nature of the phenomenon of seeing”,1 Paolini explains.
The work was reproduced in 1970 in a version with larger canvases, now lost (GPO-0202). Since there are no photographs of the first version, it has hitherto been documented by a picture taken by Ugo Mulas that, in fact, illustrates the installation of the second version.
