Orbiter, 1998

GPO-0798

Collage on canvas, pencil on canvas and on wall

Canvas 40 x 40 cm, overall dimensions 80 x 80 cm

Titled, signed, and dated on the verso, on the right of the stretcher bar: “Orbiter” / Giulio Paolini 1998”

Paolo Consolandi Collection, Milan

The canvas in a tilted position, which "orbits" from one blank sheet of drawing paper towards two squares drawn on the wall – the smaller one partially continues onto the canvas – evokes a movement that the photographic hand attempts to stop.
The title harkens back to the noun that in the system of space transportation designates the shuttle orbiting the Earth. The slipping and rotation of one support or element on the other, associated with the motif of the hand, allude to the search for a completed work or a definite image.
