Particular Signs
Pencil on primed canvas, primed canvases
Sixteen parts 40 x 40 cm each, overall dimensions 200 x 200 cm
SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen
Sixteen primed canvases, nine of which viewed from the recto and seven from the verso, make up the pieces of a mosaic in fieri, which the figure drawn on some of the canvases seems to be intent on putting together.
The “particular signs”– mentioned in the title – are the symbolic characteristics that distinguish the protagonist: the person wearing ceremonial dress, intent on setting up the canvases, is the typical stand-in for the author, repeatedly staged by Paolini, in search of “his” painting, or, as the artist says, “in the attempt to adhere to his own work”.1
