Genesi (II, 1-9), 1998

A primed canvas mounted so that it is tilted at the centre of an overturned canvas, hanging on the wall in an orthogonal position, acts as the generator nucleus of a movement in expansion. Starting from the square drawn on the blank canvas it develops across the wall via a drawing of squares that are progressively turned by 30 degrees.
The title refers to the first book of the Bible, specifically the second chapter and the verses having to do with the Creation of Man and the Garden of Eden, completing the creation of the sky and the earth. Strictly speaking, the reference to Genesis alludes to the evolutionary growth that literally generates the configuration of the work: it alludes to its becoming before our eyes starting from the epicentre constituted by the two canvases. Metaphorically, the reference to the birth of the world calls into play the becoming of an image, the evolution through which something succeeds in being configured and making itself manifest. The formal development of the work and the semantic connotation of the title indicate the site of the work in its becoming, the search for a painting that escapes every attempt at definition, dispersing its tracks through multiplication for as far as the eye can see.
