GPO-0259

Anthology (to Simonetta and Ippolito)

Photo prints fixed between two canvases mounted one on top of the other

40 x 67 cm

Signed, titled, dedicated, and dated on the verso, upper stretcher bar: “Giulio Paolini / Antologia (a Simonetta e Ippolito) / 1973”

Private collection, Turin

Two canvases of the exact same size, joined recto against recto, hold a photographic "anthology" of the artist's works1 that at the time belonged to Ippolito Simonis, a collector, art dealer, and friend, who was given this particular work as a wedding gift.
The same theme was developed in two other variants from the same year (GPO-0262, GPO-0263), along with which it is part of a series of eleven works with the same title (at times followed by a different date), made between 1973 and 1974 (GPO-0258, GPO-0259, GPO-0260, GPO-0262, GPO-0263, from GPO-0267 to GPO-0270, GPO-0273, GPO-0274).

1 The photographs viewed from the recto reproduce, from left to right and clockwise: 1421965, 1965 (GPO-0076); the multiple Ciò che non ha limiti e che per la sua stessa natura non ammette limitazioni di sorta, 1968 (GPE-0003); A J.L.B., 1965 (GPO-0087); Disegno geometrico, 1960 (GPO-0001); Alain Robbe-Grillet, 1967 (GPO-0142).
