On the Edge of the Open Sea
Stretcher, unstretched primed canvas, acrylic on floor
Stretcher 240 x 380 cm
Dismantled work
In the corner of a room, a canvas crumpled on the ground and its relative stretcher turned towards the wall stage a hypothetical painting "on the edge of the open sea" (according to the title), with the wrinkled canvas pretending to be the breaking of the waves. Corroborated by the acrylic blue painting applied freely to the floor, the scene opens and at the same time it closes the view oriented towards a distant horizon.
The title of the work made for an exhibition devoted to August Strindberg harkens back to that of the homonymous novel of the Swedish writer (At the Edge of the Sea, 1890).
