By exploiting the process known as mise en abîme, D867 doubles the subject of the work Diaframma 8 executed two years earlier, in 1965 (GPO-0081): Paolini returns to the motif of Diaframma 8 and has Anna Piva take a picture of him in Corso Re Umberto, near where his studio was located at the time, while carrying that same work. The title is a combination of the initials of the 1965 painting and the year this variant was made.
On the one hand, the doubling emphasizes the theme in question: the gesture of carrying a "blind" canvas, which alludes to the author himself and to his relationship with the painting. On the other, the duplication does away with the temporal distance between the two photographs: the gesture from 1965 is the same as the one in 1967, the repetition could continue ad infinitum.
