Photographic reproduction, sheets of white drawing paper, plexiglas sheet and case, pencil on wall
Photographic reproduction and two sheets of drawing paper 30 x 30 cm each, plexiglas sheet 30 x 30 cm, plexiglas case 80 x 80 cm, overall dimensions 86 x 120 cm
Private collection
A plexiglas case cut out in the middle is arranged so that it is staggered in relation to the square of the same size drawn on the wall (the difference between the two elements is equal to half of their surface). Inserted at a tilt in the cut-out of the case is a plexiglas piece, which holds up against the wall the photographic reproduction of a night-time sky and a blank sheet. These are tilted and slightly overlapping. Another blank sheet is applied to the wall at the lower edge of the drawn square, so as to considerably extend beyond the case.
As the title tells us, the rule of the game that governs this work is the missing correspondence between the elements which belong to distinct registers: the individual components remain “out of register” or “off-kilter” with respect to the ideal correspondence between the parts in a “painting”.
