GPO-0219

Photographic negatives affixed to black paper with drawing pins, stretcher

70 x 97 cm

Signed, titled, and dated on the verso, upper stretcher bar, left: “Giulio Paolini / Souvenir (II) 1971”

Private collection, Turin

Ten photographic negatives are pinned along the four sides of a black sheet of paper – held down on a stretcher – so that they are totally undecipherable. The negatives are pinned in the manner of postcards or some other form of souvenir, stuck into a mirror frame.
The same theme was also formulated in three other variations made in the same year (GPO-0217, GPO-0220, GPO-0221) and in two subsequent versions (GPO-0251, GPO-0264).
