The antique reproduction of Quintus Lollius Alcamenes, absorbed in contemplation of a bust of his son, is torn into two parts, each of which is applied to a primed canvas of the same dimensions so that the two faces are turned towards each other.
Akin to the group of works entitled Mimesi, developed since 1975 (cf. GPO-0283), the gazes of the two subjects meet in a closed circuit, thereby questioning the visual act as such.
The same subject was formulated in two other variants from the same year, one on paper (GPC-0455), the other on canvas (GPO-0349).
